Nisha Pahuja Documentary Wins Honors at Tribeca

Posted by

Indian-origin filmmaker Nisha Pahuja’s documentary about the life and struggles of women in India has won the best documentary feature award and a $25,000 prize at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival, one of the largest film festivals in America.

Pahuja won for her documentary “The World Before Her,” which brings together the opposing stories of the Miss India beauty pageant and a fundamentalist Hindu camp for girls.

“With unprecedented access, great compassion, and a keen eye for the universal, this year’s winner takes a hard and clear-eyed look at the trials of growing up female in today’s fast-changing world,” the jury said of Pahuja’s film. The filmmaker’s previous titles include “Bollywood Bound” and “Diamond Road,” both documentaries.
