NHK and BBC join Insefilm Prod. on ai???Beyond the Waveai???

NHK in Japan, the BBC in the UK, IKON in the Netherlands andAi??WDR Cologne in GermanyAi??have joined Berlin-based Inselfilm ProductionAi??as coproducers ofAi??”Beyond the Wave”. The filmAi??sees director Kyoko Myake revisit her motherai??i??s hometown of Fukushima after last yearai??i??s tsunami and earthquake.

Zurich-based distributor First Hand Films has finalized the coproduction deals as well asAi??pre-sales withAi??SVT in Sweden, YES in Israel and Knowledge Network in Canada.

“Beyond the Wave”Ai??will beAi??available as both a 58- and 90-minute documentary. The documentary is currently being produced by Gregor Streiber (Inselfilm), ahead of its delivery date of February 2013.

In the doc, Myake speaks to family and neighbours to find out how they are coming to terms with the tsunamiai??i??s devastation.

As explain by Inselfilm, “the director revisits Fukushima to find out what happens to her mother’s hometown. With the population of dispersed by the nuclear disaster, will fear and prejudice complete the job of wiping the town off the map? And why isnai??i??t there any obvious villain in this man-made disaster?”

ai???This project involves an extraordinary blend of partners that allows for the delivery of a personal story to reach and touch an international audience. The devastation felt by the people post tsunami is still very much alive, even though this is no longer in the headlines,ai??? said to C21media Esther van Messel, CEO of First Hand Films.

“Beyond the Wave” is funded by National and International Funds, Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg (Development/Production) and Filmstiftung NRW (Production), among others.
