Iranian filmmaker Mehdi Moniri’s documentary “Tinar” is to compete at the 2012 edition of Taiwan International Children’s Film Festival (TICFF).

As Iran’s only representative, Tinar will take part in the event’s Competition section along with five other documentaries (“KJ: Music and Life”, “My School in Taroko”, “Ivan and Ivan”, “Pets in Pots”, “How”).

Produced in 2009, the 72-minute visual presentation depicts four seasons in the life of a young boy as a shepherd, who spends a great part of the year alone working in the meadows of northern Iran.

Tinar was screened in Della Lessinia film festival in Italy, Oulu International Children’s and Youth Film Festival in Finland as well as the Open City London Documentary Festival in 2011. It also won the UNESCO Award for outstanding contribution to the promotion and preservation of cultural diversity during the 2008 Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSAs). The Jury awarded Tinar for its rich evocation of rural life in the mountainous regions of Iran.

Established in 2004, Taiwan International Children’s Film Festival (TICFF) is the first film and television festival in Asia dedicated to viewers aged 12 and under.

The 5th edition of the biennial event is scheduled to be held in April 1-11 2012 in Taipei.
