US HBO selects Longinotto’s “Pink Saris” for its next India season

Sundance-winning director Kim Longinotto (INTERVIEW on this website) has secured for the first time a U.S. network for her India-set documentary Pink Saris (pictured). 

HBO2 picked up the title to air later this month as part of the special programming event “This is not America. This is India”. (see the trailer on YouTube)

The film, produced by Vixen Films and Ginger Productions, looks at Sampat Pal Devi, the leader of Northern India’s vigilante Gulabi Gang, which fights to protect girls being abused by men. “Pink Saris” originally aired on Channel 4 in the UK, and won the best documentary award at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival in 2010.

HBO2 will give the Pink Saris its U.S. premiere on November 30 at 8 p.m. EST, repeating it on December 25.

The film  will be one the four documentaries about contemporary India debuting on HBO and HBO2 in November. The others are
