The Indian government has approved Discovery’s application to launch Discovery Kids, Military Channel, Discovery Home and Health and ID in the territory, according to Discovery Networks Asia Pacific senior VP and general manager for India Rahul Johri.

However, Johri told that the new channels were at least a year-and-a-half away from launch. He said Discovery would wait for its latest launches in the country – including TLC, Discovery Turbo, Discovery Science and Discovery HD – to “settle down and establish themselves” before introducing anything new.

C21 reported last year that Discovery was applying for five licences, which will take the number of channels it broadcasts in India to 11. It has also received approval for a licence to air Discovery 3D in the territory, but the launch date is also yet to be announced. TLC was launched in Hindi in February, replacing Discovery Travel and Living.
